Clovis:
The City of Clovis, a community of approximately 40,000, is located in the New Mexico portion of the Llano Estacado, in the eastern part of the state and close to the border with Texas.
The railway systems helped to establish Clovis, and the city continues to be a major base of operations for the BNSF Railway. Clovis is home to Cannon Air Force Base (the 27th Special Operations Wing), Burlington Northern Railroad, the Southwest Cheese Plant, Cummins-Natural Gas Engines, and many locally owned and operated businesses. Agriculture is a mainstay of the local economy, and Clovis is surrounded by thousands of acres of farming, ranching, and dairy land.
Clovis Municipal Airport (CVN) is located six miles east of Clovis on State Highway 523. Positioned on the most east-central side of the state, CVN is the aviation focal point of the region providing a wide range of services. This includes air service provided to Denver International Airport by Denver Air Connection.
Clovis is full of friendly people and has a rich history rooted in music, agriculture and community partnerships centered on the continued growth and development of the city. Such fantastic roots have only developed further through the decades, to make Clovis one of the biggest little music cities, agricultural bases, and cowboy countries throughout all of Eastern New Mexico.
Known for its great annual events – including various professional and youth rodeo events, firework spectaculars, cultural art series performances, Cannon Air Force Base partnership events, the Clovis Music Festival, and hundreds of other great community focused events, parades and celebrations throughout the year – Clovis truly has become a one-stop shop for the southwestern crave of adventure and great spirit.
Clovis boasts a wide range of leisure amenities for its residents. It has more than 17 parks and recreational areas, encompassing 3,700 acres, 900 acres of which have been developed for recreational use. There are 5 youth baseball fields; 5 adult softball fields; 4 youth softball fields; 11 soccer fields; 2 youth football fields; 1 Rugby Pitch; 1 Cricket Pitch; 23 open play areas; 1 skate park; 3 outdoor basketball courts; and 2 sand volleyball courts. Additionally, there is a splash park, dog park, public pool, zoo, par 3 golf course, 18-hole golf course, and an indoor aquatic center.
